Gibsons

Gibsons is a coastal community located on the Sunshine Coast and is best known for its artists, fishing boats and entrepreneurs, as well as, the setting for CBC Television series The Beachcombers. Although Gibsons is located on the mainland of B.C., vehicle access is a 40-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. The town is also accessible by water or float plane to the harbour.

In 2009, Gibsons earned international recognition and named the “Most Liveable Community under 20,000” in a world-wide competition by the UN-backed International Awards for Liveable Communities. The latest sign of innovation is the region’s food and beverage scene where the 101 Brewhouse and Distillery has the Sunshine Coast’s first vodka and gin distillery.

Work: The heart of this coastal community has been the scenic working harbour, but is transitioning from a fishing and forestry base to a more diverse economy with construction trades, business services, retail and tourism.

Play: Enjoy a stroll around historic Gibsons Landing and take in the working harbour with tugboats, float planes, sailboats, kayakers and other marine life. You can even buy fresh seafood right off a fish boat! Don’t forget to check out Molly’s Reach restaurant, famous site of The Beachcombers TV series.

Culture: Gibsons Public Art Gallery, located in the heart of historic Gibsons, is part of a lively arts and heritage community that supports five outstanding commercial galleries, several artists’ studios, a heritage museum and this public non-profit art gallery. The brand new Gibsons Public Market features vendor stalls, a licensed bistro and the Nicholas Sonntag Marine Education Centre.
